What Preparation is Needed?

Firstly, always consult a professional contractor.

Contractors have done this many times and may offer a warranty on the work they do.

Measure the Area

Calculate the area where you want the paving laid down. The area is the space inside a shape. A professional can help if the area is a winding driveway or perhaps try using an online area calculator.

Order Your Materials

Select your delivery date and order your materials according to your area calculated. Choosing the same date for everything to arrive is best as you can then start your project the next day.

Your list may include;
Paving base
Paving Bricks
Paving grout
Polymeric sand

Delivery

Paving base is normally a mix of concrete, sand and reclaimed (pulverised) concrete. You will need a space for this delivery and the Paving bricks and small space for the Paving Grout or polymeric sand. It is best not to deliver this to the same space as the area you need to work on.

Preparation

Grade the area by removing the top layer of Grass and roots and some of the topsoil. Then bring in the Paving base and lay it 8cm to 10cm thick. Level the paving base with a landscape rake. Take care to note the drainage slopes at this time and correct water drainage. Consult your contractor if you are unsure.

Then compact the area with a compactor.

Laying the Paving

Scuff up the first 1cm of paving base, this allows the paving to sit in the loose base and settle. Do chalk lines for the borders and lay the paving bricks according to their specified pattern. Be sure to consult your contractor as this can be tricky.

Paving Border

Borders on grass are easy. 90 degree and biggest paving bricks for the border. Dig some soil away and add some cement, finish off with a 60 degree angel that you can add some topsoil over later.

Structure to structure Borders need a little work. Cut the bricks (if needed) with a brick cutter to get your border bricks in and be careful around any plumbing.

Finishing Touches

Paving Grouting or polymeric sand is spread over the top of the paving bricks. Then compress the paving into the paving base and this is done on top of the very thin layer of grout/sand.

Last Steps

Brush the grout and polymeric sand into all the grooves between the Paving and you can use a little water too. Once the water has been applied you should be done. Enjoy your new Brick Paving area.
