Steps to Follow for Brick Paving Maintenance

Alberton Paving
On an average every two years your paving should have a maintenance routine. This includes pressure washing the Paving and then applying some sweep in sand.

Can I Maintain My Paving Sooner?

Yes. Sometimes you will notice that your paving joints are open. That is clear sign that you need to maintain the paving as soon as possible.

Washing the Paving

At first remove any stains from the paving with a mild soap and warm water. Using a hard bristle brush and warm soapy water brush away the stains.

Low Pressure Wash

Bring in a low to medium pressure washer and wash away any dirt from the paving. Take care to get into the open joints. When the joints are nice and open and clean it will allow the sand to settle in nicely.

Jointing Sand

Bring in your bag/s of jointing sand. This could also be Paving grouting sand or polymeric sand. Pour the sand on top of the paving and estimate how much you will need to fill the gaps. You might have to do this a few times.

Fill the Gaps

Using a broom gently brush the sand around and over the paving. The aim is to get the sand into the open grooves and cracks. This will give the Brick paving great stability as it hardens and sets.

Misting the Paving

Now that the sand is spread nicely and filled up all the gaps. Remove any excess sand. Next, we want to lightly mist the paving and try not flood the paving with water.

Tidy up

After misting check for any excess sand and remove it if it is over the top of the paving. Carefully remove any protective measure taken. Generally, clean up the area and stand back and admire your work done.

Most Important

The most often cause for paving that has sunk or moved is no maintenance done on the paving. If this process of cleaning out debris and applying new sand that sets and holds the paving in place is not done. The paving will eventually loosen and break up.
