Plants that Grow Fast

Shashank Nakate
This story deals with a few important plants that grow fast. The different hedges, trees, and plants bearing vegetables and flowers, are enlisted below.
Fast-growing trees are mostly required for shade and landscaping. Students require such plants for science experiments. They are also required by those who want hedges to block views or mark boundaries. The information presented below, includes descriptions, and a list of the rapidly growing plants from different categories.

Fast-growing Plants

Bamboo: It is amongst fastest growing plants in the world. Owing to its unique, rhizome-dependent system, the bamboo can grow at a rate of 24 inch/day. However, faster growth at a rate of 39 inch/day was also recorded.
Other growth-inducing factors are the climatic conditions and nature of soil. These plants are capable of attaining their full height (not maturity) within a period of 3-4 months. The vertical growth of bamboo clumps is observed in the first season; branching doesn't take place during this time.
Thuja Green Giant: It is the fastest growing evergreen tree. Growth rate of the Thuja Green Giant is 3-5 ft/yr. Being a hardy plant which tolerates drought, it is adaptable to different conditions, and also resistant to insects.
Variety of soils, ranging from heavy clays to sandy loams, can be used for growing this plant. It doesn't require much pruning due to its uniform growth pattern. It is a great alternative to disease-prone pines and hemlocks.

Hedge Plants

Some hedge plants that grow at a faster rate are included in this list. You could choose these options for your garden.
Acmena Smithii: This plant is native to Australia, and considered one of the fastest growing hedges. It attains a thick, dense growth, and bears fruits in the spring season, attracting birds.
It can be pruned at the height that one desires to have. It grows 6-9 ft tall very quickly. Ahead of that, if given time, it may grow up to a magnificent height of 16-20 ft.
Cupressus Leightons Green: This coniferous plant is hardy in nature. It grows in a variety of soil types. However, a well-drained soil and bright sunshine are ideal conditions for its growth. A spacing of 3-5 ft is required to have a dense growth. Ideal as a hedge, its height can grow 2 ft/yr.
Syzygium Hinterland Gold: This plant attains a compact shape. It is suitable for growing as a hedge, because it is capable of forming a dense screen.
Compared to the aforementioned options, the growth rate of this plant is average; it reaches a height of 6.6 ft, and a width of around 5 ft. It is capable of producing a natural, uniform growth, and hence, doesn't require much effort in pruning.

Plants for Science Projects

Students require plants with fast growth for science projects. The following are very commonly used for this purpose.
Sunflowers: These plants are known to germinate quickly in a culture medium of peat. For healthy and fast growth, sunflowers need a well-drained soil, enough moisture, and full sunlight. They grow rapidly at a rate of 1.4 inch/day during the first 28 days. Kids can use them for science projects owing to this factor.
Castor Beans: This is another plant which can be used by kids for science projects. To boost the growth of Castor beans, a bit more moisture should be provided. Scoring the beans with a knife followed by soaking them for a whole day should help in quick germination and fast growth. In a year this plant may grow to 6.6-9.9 ft.

Trees
