Organic Pest Control

Getting rid of pests using natural ingredients is not as hard as it may seem. Read ahead to know more.
The reason behind giving preference to organic methods of pest control is because the products are safe not only for the plants but also for humans. Organic- or plant-based products eradicate harmful pests without causing any damage to plants.
When these plants are consumed by human beings, the pesticides do not pose any threat to human health. Organic pesticides when prepared at home is also an economic way to control different species of pests.

Effective Methods

Several brands are quite effective in eradicating pests from gardens and cultivated regions. However, the mode of action differs from species to species. You can prepare the similar composition at home to drive rodents, aphids, weeds, fleas and other types creating menace to healthy plants.

Product #1

Effective action against bugs, caterpillars, aphids, and worms can be taken by spraying diluted tobacco solution on it. In one gallon of water, add 1 cup of tobacco leaves. Leave it overnight. Next day you will find that the color of water is similar to that of raw tea. Spray this solution on plants except the ones belonging to the Solanaceous family.

Product #2

Fill a vessel with one quarter of warm water. Mix 2-3 table spoons of detergent. To the solution add half cup of alcohol. Mix the ingredients well and spray instantly before the alcohol evaporates.

Product #3

A homemade organic pesticide made from garlic shows wonderful action against a wide range of pesticides. In 1 quart of warm water add 1 tsp of cayenne pepper, 1 sliced garlic and 1 tsp of liquid soap. Soak an onion in this mix. Chop the garlic well and add soap water after an hour. Boil the solution and then strain. Spray over the plants when ready to use.

Product #4

It is prepared by mixing horseradish, spearmint, pepper, and onion. Mix equal quantities of horseradish, red pepper, spearmint, and onion in water. Make sure the water is just enough to cover the ingredients. Then add the detergent. It will give you a concentrated solution. Before spraying make sure you add equal quantities of water for diluting the mixture.

Product #5

An effective agent for driving off ants and other types of pests is prepared by coffee ground with lemon juice. Boil the coffee grounds in water for some time along with cinnamon. Strain the mixture and add citrus oil, cayenne pepper, and lemon oil to it. Spray the liquid under the leaves and on the roots. This will surely keep the plants away from pests.

Product #6

Borax when mixed with sugar forms a wonderful pest control agent. To prepare this solution, add 1/2 cup of borax in 1 gallon of water and add 4 teaspoons of sugar to it. Dip cotton balls overnight into the solution. Now put these cotton balls on the stems and leaves of the plants for protecting against pests. You can also spray this solution on plants.
