Building Monkey Bars Yourself

If you are keen on constructing monkey bars all by yourself, and gift your child a natural play-station, then here is voluntary help coming your way in the form of instructions.

Materials You Need

  • Measuring Tape
  • Post hole digger
  • Spirit Level
  • Cement mix
  • Wrench
  • Drill, drill bit (1 inch)
  • Screw gun
  • Eight Metal rods
  • 2" x 6" x 30" Six Cedar boards
  • 4" x 4" x 9' Four Cedar posts
  • 4" x 4" x 8' Two Cedar posts
  • 4-inch Sixteen Wood screws
  • Ladder
  • Four Lag bolts, ⅜" x 8"

What You Need to Do

1. Measure out an area approximately; being 30-inch by 8-foot rectangular area where you plan to place the monkey bars. Dig a 2-feet deep hole at each corner where you are to place the monkey bars.
2. With the cement mix ready you could pour the mixture into the holes and place your 9-foot cedar posts in the cement. Use your level to make sure the posts stay perpendicular.

3. Now let the cement dry. In the meantime you could make preparations for other steps that you are to take for making monkey bars.
4. Drill eight holes that are 2 inches deep in your two 8-foot cedar posts. Start 2 inches from one end and space the holes 1 foot apart. Let all holes be on the same side.

5. Place the two cedar posts parallel to the holes being side by side. With the metal rods, you could now place them in the two parallel holes, having your monkey bars ready.
6. Drill a ⅜ inch hole through the ends of the cedar posts that will be used to hold the metal rods. Drill 1 ¾ inch from the end, and 1 ¾ inch from each side. The hole should be perpendicular to the metal rods. All in all, you should have four holes.
7. Pick up the monkey bars and set the corners on the posts that are in the cement. Drill a bolt through each hole into the ends of the cedar posts.

8. The remaining four cedar boards should be fastened to the cedar posts fixed with cement. They should be perpendicular to the posts.
9. Place one board raising it above the ground, and another board 1 foot raised from the first board. Repeat the procedure on the other cedar posts. You are done!
With the monkey bars in place -- well-constructed -- you could let nature, and not supplements, witness your kids development and growth. Monkey bars in my backyard are ready, what about you!
