The concept of incorporating a rock garden for landscaping in front or backyards is becoming more and more popular by the day. It seems like people have realized that going in for a good landscape design that involves stones and rocks is a better and more suitable option for them.

This is because they don't have time to manage a full-fledged garden and there's no real point of keeping one if you can't manage it. Read ahead to know more about some good backyard or front yard landscaping ideas.

Landscaping Designs with Stones

Rock garden landscaping is quite the hit and several landscaping artists and designers come up with breathtaking designs that transform dreary back or front yards into sprawling wonders! Let's see some ideas to do the same for you.

Big Bad Boulders

Boulders are very often used for landscaping with rocks. Most of them are picked out from quarries or landfills. You can choose as many as you want according to the size of your garden.

Scrape them out, so that they do not have any sharp ends or edges which can be dangerous to children or pets. Plant lush green grass all around your garden and drop the boulders at random spots within the garden or bordering the garden. You can also have a huge one in the center of your garden and have your family's names carved in it.

Marble Garb(le)

Marble is another good option for landscaping stones to choose from. It has a high absorbing capacity and comes in attractive colors like white, black, pink, gray, etc.

You can use these to make a sitting area in the middle of your lawn, or use it to make a pathway through the different parts of your garden and into your home. Another option is, make a flight of say 6-7 steps, right in the center of your garden, and leave them there.

Flagstone Warrior

Flagstone is an all-time favorite when it comes to landscaping with rocks. It has a smooth finish, which gives it a shiny and appealing look in any garden.

For using it in a landscape, have a beautifully carved marble fountain as the center of your garden and use the flagstone to make a base surrounding it. Build a small flagstone wall around the fountain too and have a small gate open into it.

Lime Time

Limestone is anther good option for landscaping, especially if you're planning to go in for a Japanese garden concept.

You can have a pathway leading from the beginning of your garden to the end in limestone and have slabs of limestone fitted together to form a seating arrangement at different vantage points in the garden.

Pebbles and Bam Bam

Another favorite among landscape designing enthusiasts is the regular pebbles that you can find almost anywhere.

Small pebbles can be used in an outdoor aquarium or small pond. Medium-sized pebbles look great for bordering the pond or fountain. Use large pebbles to line the entire garden and any pathway that leads into or out from the garden.

Lava Love

Lava rocks are also frequently used in landscaping.

Because of their attractive red and black color, they are quite popular landscaping stones. They can be used in a combination with white marble and green grass, to design a pretty tri-color garden with interlocking landscaping stones.
