Houseplants With Superpowers That Are Perfect For Beginners

Houseplants that are really easy to care for don’t need to be boring. There are many plants to choose from, but knowing the right one can be tricky.
Climadoor have put together a list of their favourite houseplants with “superpowers” that are perfect for beginners. All the plants chosen are low-maintenance, stylish and above all, they dazzle you with their brilliance!

Snake Plant (Sansevieria Trifasciata)

One of the easiest houseplants to take care of, the Snake Plant has the ability to remove 4 out of 5 of the main toxins involved in "sick building syndrome" according to the NASA clean air study. Only 5 other plants are able to do this.

Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera Deliciosa)

A large houseplant with vast leaves, the Swiss Cheese Plant is perfect for filtering light. Thus, helping to reduce heat caused by sunlight and adding a new dimension to your decor.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is often called First Aid Plant due to its medicinal uses. It's often used in lotions and moisturisers and is great for accelerating healing process of burns. It lowers blood sugar levels and reduces dental plaque with its antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas Zamiifolia)

With being super easy going, the ZZ Plant also has air purifying qualities and removes Toluene and Xylene from the atmosphere. According to Feng Shui, it is also said to bring good luck and wealth.

Peruvian Apple Cactus (Cereus Peruvianus)

Surprisingly simple to look after, the Peruvian Apple Cactus needs to be watered every 6 weeks or so. It can also help reduce radiation by absorbing electromagnetic waves, so is the perfect addition to any living room, kitchen or office where technology is most prevalent.

Bromeliad Pineapple (Ananas Comosus ‘Champaca’)

One of the key features of the Bromeliad Pineapple plant, is its unusual ability to release oxygen at night. The slight scent released, is actually an anti-inflammatory enzyme called Bromylaine that helps reduce snoring.

Alocasia Amazonica (Hybrid)

One of the more bizarre looking plants, this is a hybrid designed to make a real statement. With its large two-tone waxy leaves and prominent veins, it's perfect to create a focus in their home. It's also easy to look after it.

Mimosa Plant (Mimosa Pudica)

Mimosa is an interactive plant visibly responding to touch and light. Known as touch-me-not plant, its leaves open and close if exposed to bright light or touched, and this makes it a fascinating plant to own and may become part of the family!

Venus Flytrap (Dionaea Muscipula)

One of the most well known carnivorous plants, Venus Flytraps can reduce the amount of insects in a house by up to 30%, which makes it a perfect option for the kitchen. Apart from looking incredibly cool, Venus Flytrap has medicinal uses and is known to aid digestion and symptoms of Crohns Disease.

Lavender (Lavendula Angustifolia)

The scent of Lavender is widely known to aid sleep and relaxation and is found in well-being products and natural sleep aids. It's also edible and widely used as a culinary herb and herbal tea. Lavender oils are also perfect for massage and therapy.

Semaphore Plant (Codariocalyx Motorius)

Another interactive plant, the Semaphore (or Telegraph) Plant will "dance" to light, heat and most interestingly, sound. The Semaphore visibly moves when exposed to changing light and temperature conditions and also responds to music, the only plant known to do so.
