The ancient Egyptians and Asians have associated the lotus flower with the human soul, spirituality, and divinity. It also forms one of the important elements of Buddhism and is associated with enlightenment, re-birth, unification, and purity in a mystical way.
The scientific name of blue white flower is Nymphaea caerulea. The Chinese revere blue lotus as 'The Rising Soul'. The Egyptians believed the blue lotus as a symbol of fertility and sacrament. Thus, it is known as the Egyptian Lotus, Blue Water Lily and Sacred Narcotic Lily of the Nile.
In Sanskrit, the blue lotus is known as padma or pundarika. In Hinduism, the flower signifies youthfulness, eternity, divinity, fertility, and purity.
The flower's pattern of growth signifies progress of the soul. Its blooming is synonymous to the pathway of a soul, starting its journey from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, into the bright sunshine of enlightenment.
The lotus is also part of the triratna, which symbolizes the Three Jewels in Buddhism. The flower also signifies wisdom, knowledge, and victory of spirit over senses.

Effects

Blue lotus has a pleasing smell; it is used as an infusions in perfumes, oils, and aromatherapy. It also acts as a mild sedative. It is known to have psycho-active properties. It's inebriating properties have been explored by the ancient Egyptians.
It contains alkaloids like aporphine and nuciferine, the latter has aphrodisiac and intoxicating effects. Also, these flowers contain active ingredients like bioflavonoids, phosphodiesterase, and phytosterols; these had the ability to preserve mummified bodies.
The flowers produce a thick amber-colored liquid, sweet in taste, which when consumed, creates a warm and euphoric glow. Dried flowers are used to add flavor in smoking mixtures. They are also soaked in wine for flavor. The flowers can enhance memory, increase blood circulation and demonstrate healing properties.

Tea

The tea made from a blue lotus is said to relax, and calm the drinker. To make two cups of tea, you need the following ingredients.

Ingredients

  1. Tea bag or tea leaves, 1½ tsp
  2. Blue lotus flower extract, 5-10 g
  3. Lemon juice, 1 tsp
  4. Honey, 1 tsp
  5. Water, 2 cups

Procedure

Boil the water in a container. Add the tea bag or tea leaves and brew for some time. Now mix premium quality blue lotus extract in the boiling water. Include the buds and flowers. Submerge for 15-20 minutes; add honey and lemon juice. You can also add your favorite spices in the tea. Stir it well and then strain it.
