Prelude

For some, spending time tending to their garden is a relaxing and therapeutic experience. The touch of the soft earth as they wholeheartedly dig, weed and water and feel immense pride when they see their hard work blossom into a myriad of colors and shades of green. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing the fruits of your labor.
However, having an aesthetically pleasing and presentable garden is something most expected by neighbors and the HOA and also looked for, by potential buyers, when wanting to sell property. Some even install outdoor garden speakers, examples can be found on this website. So let's start and help you do this with minimum expenses and efforts.

1.) Invest In Smart, Durable Watering Equipment

Having to regularly untangle and patch up hoses, fix little bends or breaks in pruners and rakes or resharpening garden knives and shears can eventually lead to a lot of frustration and even damage to your plants. Not to mention it can become costly if you have to replace tools every few months! So invest in gardening tools that are of high-quality.
Water is one of the most basic requirements for maintaining a healthy and good-looking garden landscape. Therefore, one item that is most commonly used when gardening is a hosepipe. Unfortunately, the cheaper, plastic ones don’t tend to last too long before they start to show signs of wear and tear. Especially after over-exposure to the sun.
That is why getting yourself a metal garden hose is a brilliant solution! They are much more durable and stronger, more flexible and do not puncture. Some are even filtered, so it’s safe to drink the water straight from the hose! They are also more resistant to heat and coil up easily for storage.

2.) Avoid A Jaundiced Lawn

A yellowish lawn can be the result of too much fertilizer. The nitrogen used in fertilizer, to encourage growth, can burn the grass if too much is used. Dilute the fertilizer by watering your lawn and soil after treatments.

3.) Snug Garden Beds

When planting large garden beds, make sure that you place the plants in close-knit, snug groups together. When plants closely share soil and root systems it helps to prevent them from drying out. This is why it’s important to distribute watering close to the roots. Also, the moisture on the leaves may evaporate before it actually reaches the plant roots.

4.) Look For A Ground Cover That Is Low Maintenance

If your budget is a bit tight, a lush green lawn might not be your best bet. It definitely looks great and fits in with the American ideology of a perfect white picket fence home, it’s not a financially savvy option. It can become a real struggle to maintain and keep it free from weeds and patches, adding the cost of fertilizers and treatments etc.
This is why a low maintenance ground cover is a much more time-efficient and cost-effective alternative option. Some ground covers to consider should be wintergreen, thyme, bishop’s weed, and lamium. Just take note, that these cannot handle as much foot traffic as regular grass. These plants germinate at a quick rate and remain strong through variables.

5.) Invest In Good Soil

Any healthy garden starts with a good soil base. Look for a soil that can hold on to the water for longer and by so doing, keep your plants hydrated for an extended amount of time.

Good Housekeeping Lab pick, Nature’s Care Organic Garden Soil is a good example; its nutrients can keep your plants fed for up to 3 months!

6.) Don’t Slice Off More Than An Inch Of Grass

No one likes having to mow the lawn, never mind on a regular basis, try to not set your mower’s blades too low. Cutting off more than an inch of grass will hurt your lawn and will cause dreaded brown spots.

Also, when cutting your grass, or any plant for that matter, make sure that the blades of the tool that you’re using are sharp. Dull blades is a no-no.

Finally!

A few things you can do in order to ensure a beautiful looking garden with minimum landscaping effort. Taking pride in your house’s landscaping goes a long way! Gardening shouldn’t feel like an unbearable chore.

You don’t have to spend hours and thousands of dollars on it; just a few small, minimum effort changes will make a world of a difference!
