5 Top Tips for Creating a Beautiful Garden on a Budget

Zoey Fawell
No matter how small or big your garden space is, you should consider changing up the look every once in a while, and crafting a beautiful garden that you're proud to call your own. If you're not fortunate to live in a place with greenery, some of these tips can apply to balconies and porches if you wish to spruce up the style.
It can get boring looking at grey slabs all day, especially when the sun is shining, and you want to get outside for a few drinks with your friends. Instead, consider creating a beautiful garden!
However, while it's always a good idea to add colourful features, don't forget if you have a budget to stick to it. Despite what people often think, budgeting and decorating is easy if you know what is available through research.
Are you struggling for ideas and want to ensure you have the best-looking garden when compared to your neighbours? Here is a list of top tips for creating a beautiful garden on a budget.

1. Add Flowers or Flowering Pots

Why not add a splash of colour and break up any greenery by contrasting it with some beautifully placed flowers? There are so many different types to choose from, and you don't have to decide on simply one.
Popular flower choices include cosmos, sunflowers, and marigolds. When planting your new flowers, consider the amount of light they will get in the position you’re planting them. If your garden doesn’t get a lot of direct sunlight, then you may want to research flowers that don’t need a lot of light.
Similarly, embrace flowers that do require sunlight if you find your garden has this. Plus, you don’t have to specifically have to use flowers as your plants, instead try herbs or vegetables such as rocket, spring onions and chives. Doing so will also make your home eco-friendlier and more self-sustainable.

2. Install a Seating Area

If you have a large garden or space for a patio, installing a seating area or bench is a great idea, especially if you’re typically a host for garden parties in the summer. Simply installing some seating and a table can make a lot of difference to your home as it gives more character.
However, if you live in an apartment block or development, you may not have the luxury of a garden to install seating. RWinvest, a property investment company, offer inspiration for beautiful gardens throughout their newly developed properties which often feature communal gardens for residents to relax and socialise.
Stores such as IKEA and B&Q have a range of affordable seating options if you're considering adding this staple to your garden area. You can shop instore and consider your choices there, or even order online for convenience.

3. Control Weeds

Remove weeds before they grow to become pests in your garden. If you truly want a beautiful space outside your home, why waste money on flowers and plant food when they’re just going to share nutrients with and mooch from others?
Carefully use some gloves and take out the weeds when they’re only just starting to grow and sprinkle down some weed killer, so no other weeds grow in the space afterwards. You may find you have to occasionally apply some weed killer to prevent them from returning!

4. Keep it Simple

Depending on the size of your green space, you will most likely want to keep your design simple. There is nothing worse than being unable to move in a garden due to trees, plants, and garden furniture, so only plan for the space you have.
If you’re fortunate enough to have a large garden, then you can obviously have more features. Remember, if you’re out and about looking for garden accessories, consider what you already have and where your new purchase will fit before actually buying it.

5. Shop Affordable

There are hundreds of stores to shop garden furniture and features but if you're on a budget, ensure you only buy in places you're going to be able to afford.
Understandably there will be certain aspects you have to pay more for, but for the general garden stuff, you can get it for a lot cheaper if you are savvy and plan accordingly. Take a look online before shopping in person for your furniture and accessories to get more of an idea of price.
