10 DIY Pest Repellents for Your Garden

If you love gardening, then in that case, one of your biggest problems would most probably be the pests. These pests continuously attack your plants, season after season.
According to expert flower delivery, although insecticides and pesticides are effective in terminating and killing those pests, they are unsafe to use especially if you have a garden of organic vegetables. These commercially offered products for pest repellants contain chemicals and ingredients that harm your health.
If you want to use safe and chemical-free pest repellants, you may follow these 10 DIY homemade repellants.

1. Garlic, Mint, Pepper Spray

Combining garlic with mint and pepper is a simple way of formulating an effective pest repellant at home. You only need several cloves of garlic and some leaves of mint and pepper to create this DIY natural spray.
You can use this spray to remove and prevent garden bugs from ruining your plants, flowers, and fruits. In addition, this spray will help your plant to repair any damages caused by bugs.

2. Herbs and Water Spray

The essential oils that you get from Sage, Thyme, Rosemary, Basil, and Mint can be mixed with water to create a very efficient spray for pest repelling purposes. For a DIY formula, mix water with the extracted oil from these leaves and trimmings.
There are stores that sell essential oils, which can be used for this DIY formula. If you want to repel those insects away from your garden, this spray should be in your storage room.

3. Hot Pepper Spray

The “heat” in the hot pepper spray is an effective solution to stop mites from pestering the plants. It can be formulated at home using natural ingredients such as hot pepper sauce, dishwashing liquid, and water.
Spraying this DIY pest repellent pepper spray is safe on plants and vegetables. It has been studied that the capsaicin compound found in pepper irritates different kinds of insects and pests, including flies, mites, and more.

4. Baking Soda Spray

Tested to be effective, a spray of baking soda prevents powdery mildew that affects plants and flowers in the garden. It can be easily made by combining a spoon of baking soda with a spoon of vegetable oil and dishwashing liquid. The mixture is added to a gallon of water and sprayed on leaves and foliage.

5. Tomato Leaf Spray

If you are seeing aphids and mites in your garden, you can easily make a DIY spray from tomato leaves. Tomato leaves are known to contain alkaloids which can irritate insects and pests. The extracts from tomato leaves are added with water to create a formula. It is safe to use on all types of plants and vegetables.

6. Soap Spray

A wide variety of garden pests, insects, and bugs can be treated naturally using a simple formula of soap. If you see scale and mites or aphids and thrips pestering your flowers and vegetables, you can always find the most effective solution in your kitchen.
You can DIY a gallon of soap spray by mixing dishwashing liquid soap with water. The soap can dissolve and disrupt any insects and their shells away from leaves and stems of plants.

7. Beer

If you want to say goodbye to slugs, use beer in your garden. To DIY this solution, you will need a wide-mouthed can, plastic container, or glass. The container that you choose to use should be buried in the ground, at least two-thirds of the container. Pour the beer on the can or glass in about half of the container.
Once the slugs smell the yeast contained in the beer, they will slowly crawl and enter the container, causing them to be drowned. You can empty the can or container every morning and refill it with fresh beer to attract slugs and other pests. Soon enough, your garden will be free from slugs.

8. Molasses Tea

Another natural solution that you can DIY at home to get rid of pests and insects away from your garden is the molasses tea. To make a spray, you will simply need to mix a liter of water with 3 tablespoons of molasses tea.
Shake or stir it well and spray on plants, flowers, and on the ground two or three times per week until pests go away. This solution will drive caterpillars, grasshoppers, spiders, and tiny parasitic worms away from your garden.

9. Mixed Vegetable Spray

The solution you need for your garden is your own produce. If you are growing vegetables and you don’t want any unwanted visitors to munch on them, you can simply DIY a vegetable spray. What you can do is to mix onions, garlic cloves, peppers, mint, baking soda, and dishwashing liquid soap with water.
You can boil all vegetables in one pot and use the water from this mixture to spray on the plants. This solution will put all types of bugs, insects, and pests away from your garden.

10. Neem Oil Spray

The oil from the seeds of neem can be used to create a spray that will get rid of garden pests. By combining the oil with water, you have a natural insecticide and anti-fungicide to use on your plants and flowers. This spray is effective in repelling scales, aphids, and mites, including different kinds of soft-bodied and crawling insects.
